It is likely that Nevada will pass recreational marijuana in the very near future, following several States such as Colorado. Be careful that your dreams come true and create a nightmare. Regardless of the medicinal benefits and freedom of choice, there are hidden dangers associated with the legal consequences of using marijuana. Not the least of the dangers is that it is unpredictable to determine if it is legally safe to drive. Even if a person is not impaired by marijuana, the legal 'limit' for marijuana is extremely low and not scientifically related to impairment. A frequent user of marijuana is likely to be over the limit every time the person drives although not under the influence at the time. There are severe penalties even for a misdemeanor DUI and devastating consequences if someone is injured or killed. The moral of the story is if a person chooses to use marijuana, the person should chose not to drive.
Truth in Attorney advertising is an ethical requirement of the State Bar of Nevada. Misleading ads which promise big results and little prices may generate business but 'buyer beware'. Potential Clients need to ask how many actual trials the Attorney has conducted. Potential Clients need to ask if the Attorney goes to trial or just pleads Clients guilty. Potential Clients need to beware of scare tactics in which Attorneys claim Clients will go to jail if they don't hire the right Attorney. Potential Clients need to beware of claims that the charge carries 'mandatory' jail. Don't just read the big sign!
SPEAK THE TRUTH
It is not a suggestion it is the law. Attorneys on both "sides" are considered officers of the Court and owe a moral and legal obligation to the Court to prevent the Judge, who is only human, from making a material mistake of fact. the obligation to correct a Judge from making a faulty finding of fact overrides any obligation to win. Making a conscious decision to allow a Judge to base a ruling on a clearly erroneous finding of fact may well be the basis for an appeal. Our Supreme Court abhors not only the blatant waste of resources but the ethical violation by those who are obliged to "do justice" in lieu of winning at all costs. To "do justice" means to assure the facts are accurate.
